Without links, your content can’t rank

Always remember that the success of link building, along with advanced strategies such as the Skyscraper technique, depends on an effective outreach strategy. When people conduct research, they want up-to-date, accurate information. That’s why it’s important to keep content updated. Recency is becoming an increasingly important ranking factor in Google’s search algorithm and for good reason—your audiences don’t want to waste time reading dated content. One thing’s for sure though, Google is getting smarter. It’s now much harder to take shortcuts or to pull the wool over its eyes and cheat your way to the top – you have to earn your place. If you haven’t already I highly recommend you sign up for both Google Analytics and Google Webmaster tools. Both of them are free, and provide a wealth of information about your website, who visits it and what keywords they are using which really helps when planning/assessing your SEO campaign. Browser caching is about how a browser remembers / stores your website for faster visiting the next time you come to that website.

Be specific when the user wants a particular thing

For many businesses the goal is to get their business to position number 1 on Google, but did you know that there’s a new top spot on Google called position zero. You’ve probably noticed these results but maybe not understood them properly. Position zero is all about using featured snippets to give an informative answer to a user’s query. It’s not uncommon for the results that are further down the first page listings to be featured in position zero. Links from and to an article help boost its ranking. When you submit, check the ways you can enrich your article; linking to different websites and databases is always a good idea. Marketers rely on search engine optimization (SEO) to improve search rankings, website traffic and lead generation. Anchor text of external links affects ranking. Links with SEO focused anchor text needs to be relevant to the target page. Make sure that every page has one call-to-action, so the goal of the page is clear. If you add multiple buttons, you lose the focus of the page and your visitors won’t get where you want them to go.

What worked a few years ago is now irrelevant.

80% of traffic to a website begins with a search query and 60% of clicks (to a site) are generated by the top 3 search results (on the search engine result page). Including a Contact Us page on your website and putting the link in the navigation not only makes for good user experience (especially if you have an ecommerce site) but can also potentially earn you some Google juice. Users searching for your site on Google might not necessarily want to land on your homepage. Sitelinks on the SERP provide them with a direct link to other parts of your site which might be more relevant to them. Are internal links as valuable as external links? You can no longer present less information on your mobile site than on your desktop site. Your content has to be the same on both, because, in the future, you can only rank on the information that is on your mobile page. Even after all of the changes with the search engine algorithms, inbound SEO links are still the biggest influence for search engines.

Without links, your content can’t rank

Gaz Hall, a Freelance SEO Consultant from SEO Hull, commented: "Google can detect well-written content, and can detect poor quality content, or unoriginal text." User-generated content can increase the relevance and freshness of a website. Users can interact with your website in many different forms. The most common ways include blog comments, question and answer boxes on products, and reviews! Frequent link audits can save your site from the dangers of negative SEO. If you constantly monitor your links, it’s easier to spot a sudden change before it becomes uncontrollable. A picture can be worth a thousand words, they say. Well, when it comes to online marketing, a single image can be worth a thousand links! The best way to build links is to not build links. I’ve worked for companies in the past that don’t have to ask for them, they just flow in from press, customer blogs, their awesome blog posts, etc. If this is an option (and we’ll go over a couple of ways to make it more likely) you’re in a great place.

Get Social

Well-written content is also far more likely to generate backlinks - links from other websites directing people to yours. This will boost your sites ranking in search engines, ensuring that the content people are being directed to is of a high standard. Search engines want to deliver the best results to searchers based on the search terms visitors enter. SEO tools are a necessity to any SEO campaign. They can save you time and provide you with valuable insights into your own and your competitor’s websites. Needless to say, learning how to use these tools is extremely important. Find out which channels are driving traffic to your competition . It is recommended to take a holistic approach to SEO and consider all factors. The days of being able to manipulate one or two isolated metrics are gone.

Use anchor text

Websites that are popular and have a lot of links shared on social media tend to perform well on the search engines. These sharing signals are picked up by the search engines which look at the links being shared to help assess the popularity of a webpage and whether it is authoritative. Because people have shorter attention spans, keep the most important information in heading tags so they can scan and see if they want to delve deeper into the post. It is important to remember though that organic link building does not happen overnight. You have to build a perceptive strategy to generate the highest quality of content and then promote it amongst the influencers of your market to gain organic links. If your blog lists yourindividual posts in order of the date that they were published, like most blogs do, then the older your blog post gets, the lower down the website architecture it goes. Look for resourcesthat deal with similar topics to your own site. You may find many Internet projects that not in direct competition with you, but which share the same topic as your site. Try to approach the site owners. It is quite possible that they will be glad to publish information about your project.
